Her Royal Highness Princess Laurentien of the Netherlands will be delivering the keynote address at the 88th edition of the International World Library and Information Congress in Rotterdam Ahoy on Monday, 21 August.
During the opening ceremony, Princess Laurentien will be delivering a speech and reflecting on the role of libraries in the future. The outgoing Minister of Education, Culture and Science Robbert Dijkgraaf as well as the outgoing State Secretary Gunay Uslu for Culture and Media for the Netherlands will also speak as part of the opening ceremony. The minister and the state secretary are scheduled to deliver speeches on the connecting role of library and information specialists, and a speech about the importance of libraries, respectively.
During a Q&A, the Minister of Education, Culture and Science and the State Secretary will discuss the connecting role of librarians and information specialists worldwide, and the social role the sector plays. The opening ceremony will conclude with the formal opening of the conference by Princess Laurentien and Barbara Lison, IFLA President.
