In addition to the stimulating programme in Rotterdam, IFLA WLIC 2023 offers the opportunity to soak up some inspiration in some of the most wonderful libraries in the Netherlands and Belgium. On the last day of the Congress, Friday 25 August, you can participate in library visits. Please note that availability is limited, so don’t wait to register!

Iconic buildings 

Den Helder and Alkmaar (winner of the IFLA public library of the year award 2018) 

Apeldoorn and Amersfoort (including the Eemhuis with thousands of aluminium spheres and the overwhelming central hall)  

Limburg (visit Genk public library’s impressive ‘glass house’, designed by the famous French architect Claude Vasconi) 

Interesting history 

Zutphen (a public library in an old convent church (1280) in the centre of Zutphen. 

Modern libraries  

Assen and Hoogezand (winner of the Best Dutch Library award of 2022/2023) 

Veluwe (modern centres of culture, knowledge and education) 

Combination of iconic building, modern library and university library 

Rijnmond
