The Library and Research Services for Parliaments Section (IFLAPARL) invite proposals for presentations at the Pre-Conference to be hosted by the Oireachtas (Irish Parliament), Dublin, Ireland, from 12 – 13 August, 2020.
We invite proposals for short and inspiring presentations. The primary requirement is for presentations on three topic strands supporting our conference theme, but there is scope for other topics in the fourth strand, which is open.
The four main topic strands are:
1. Library and Information services:
- Strengthening information literacy
- Preserving and making use of parliament’s memory and historic collections
2. Research services:
- Research services in support of evidence-based policy work and/or parliamentary scrutiny>
3. Quality and value:
- Ensuring library and research services that are fit for parliamentary purpose
- Thriving in the information marketplace: professional and client perspectives
Presentations for these three strands should be focused on practical experience and learning. Presenters will have a maximum of 15 minutes each to deliver their presentations. There will be additional time for questions and discussion.
In addition, in the fourth strand we are seeking presentations of a maximum of 5 minutes each focused on very specific innovations, issues, and/or challenges from any aspect of parliamentary library and research services. These will be part of interactive sessions using, for example, the knowledge café format.
4. Connecting and innovating:
- Kaleidoscope: lightning talks/knowledge café on trends, innovations, and/or challenges from individual services
For all four strands, proposals for highly engaging presentations with a knowledge sharing and practical focus will be selected. Proposals for presentations on innovation – successful or unsuccessful – are particularly encouraged for all four strands.
Note: Presentations should be focused on the topic and (with the exception of the host parliament) should not make general introductions of the service concerned. Presenters can supply background information on their service which can be made available to conference delegates in advance or bring print information to be made available in the hall.
